OGDEN — A man accused of hitting and killing an elderly woman here has struck a plea deal with prosecutors.

Court records said that Aaron Derrick Summerill, 25, pleaded guilty to a class A misdemeanor charge of negligent homicide during an appearance in 2nd District Court on Tuesday. In exchange, a series of other charges were dismissed.

Summerill was charged in October in connection with the death of Mary Deats, 78, who was hit and killed while crossing Harrison Boulevard on July 22. Ogden police said at the time that Summerill did not intend to kill her and tried to avoid hitting her, but was going too fast and driving under the influence.

He is scheduled to be sentenced next month.
