Editor's note: Looking back at the stories of 2008, Mormon Times staffers reflect on a few that touched their lives.

Journalists are known for running directly into the line of fire in battles where they are neither a combatant nor a rescuer.

It can be argued that journalism is shoot-from-the-hip sociology, or that sociology is journalism without the pressure of a daily deadline.

The interaction I've had with people who have come to MormonTimes.com has produced a boatload of comparative information, based on the kind of stories people have been reading, printing or e-mailing to others. The fact that my e-mail address is on the site has also attracted, to my in-box, the questions and opinions of people who have sought out MormonTimes.com either looking for a beacon or a target.
