Thank you for the article about Margaret Brown (Dec. 26) who, after losing a brother and two sons to suicide, has made great efforts to reach out to families of other suicide victims to help them heal. Also, thank you for an earlier article about Eric Hipple who has also devoted time and effort to help in the fight against suicide.
Suicide is one of the leading causes of death among young men. Besides the obvious tragedy, there is another tragedy associated with suicide. Because it is an uncomfortable subject, it doesn't get the attention in school and suicide isn't discussed around the dinner table.
Having lost our 17-year-old son to depression and suicide about three years ago, we have noticed numerous obituaries for young men since then that appear to be likely suicides. I support efforts by the Deseret News to keep discussing suicide and its prevention. As Margaret Brown has demonstrated, there are many opportunities to reach out to families of suicide victims and help them in their healing.
