Utah Utes basketball: Women beat Ducks

EUGENE, Ore. — Kalee Whipple became Utah's 21st 1,000-point scorer as the Utes executed a late second-half rally to defeat Oregon, 63-49.

Whipple scored 14 of her 15 points in the first half. She has 1,003 points for her career. Morgan Warburton led Utah with 19 points — all of which were scored in the second half — while Katie King had her second double-double of the year, scoring 12 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Halie Sawyer led the Utes in rebounding with a career-high 14.

With the game tied, 47-47 with just over six minutes remaining, Utah closed out the game with a 16-2 run to take the lead and the victory. Warburton had 11 of those points and also pulled down two rebounds in the Utes' surge.

Although Utah held as much as a 12-point lead in the first half, Oregon came back in the second half with an 18-7 run through the first eight minutes to tie the game, 37-37.

The Utes held the edge in rebounds, 40-26, and had 11 steals.

Whipple and Warburton (1,491 points) are the only two current players in the Mountain West Conference to have reached the 1,000-point mark.

The Ducks were led by Jasmin Holliday, who had 10 points, six rebounds and six steals. Taylor Lilley was also in double figure scoring with 10 points.

Utah has a quick turnaround, returning home to face USC on Tuesday at 8 p.m.
