Utah Grizzlies fall in OT to Steelheads

WEST VALLEY CITY — The Idaho Steelheads jumped out to an early lead and held on to beat the Utah Grizzlies 3-2 in overtime Saturday night at the E-Center before a season-high of 5,526 fans.

The Grizzlies wore New York Islanders jerseys in the game that were auctioned off after the game, raising $16,874. All proceeds going to St. Jude Children's Hospital.

The Steelheads jumped up 2-0 in the second period with a pair of power-play goals. Utah rallied back with a goal from James Sanford with 42 seconds left in the period to make the game 2-1 at the second intermission.

The Grizzlies tied the game with 5:29 left in regulation as Tim Verbeek scored a power-play goal from his knees for his 11th of the year. Sanford and Kinasewich picked up assists.

The Steelheads scored 2:51 into overtime to pick up the win.

Mike Mole stopped 42 of 45 shots in his 26th straight start for Utah.

The Grizzlies return to action Friday and Saturday in Las Vegas. Face-off for both games will be 8:30 p.m.
