It's always fun to reflect on the past year when the new one is just around the corner. Just look at the stories from all the Deseret News critics in this issue.
However, wouldn't it make sense if we looked forward as well?
It makes sense to me.
So, in keeping with my eye dead set on the future, here is a list of what I would like to see happen in the music biz in 2009. Make note, however, that these are my hopes, and they may or may not come true.
1. The Police will reflect on the success of their reunion tour and decide to record and release a full-length CD of new material.
2. Metallica will come back and play Salt Lake City, "just for the heck of it."
3. The Oreskaband will headline a gig instead of tour with the Van's Warped Tour
4. The Oreskaband headlining tour will make a stop in Utah.
5. The Led Zeppelin reunion will do a gig in Utah and feature Alison Krauss on mandolin on "Battle of Evermore."
6. Van Halen will release an instrumental CD.
7. "American Idol" will take a sabbatical.
8. Another reality TV show, "The Amazing Race," will feature teams of musicians like Alice Cooper, Ozzy Osbourne and W. Axl Rose.
9. Steve Perry will rejoin Journey and put an end to the band's fans obsessing about who is the band's better lead singer.
10. iPods will not be upgraded this year. It will give time people who bought new models in 2008 to fully enjoy them.
