Jenkins noted that although a number of groups gave public testimony at the committee's final gathering Thursday in support of delaying the bill, that has not been the case at the rest of the committee hearings that took place throughout the summer at locations around the state.
"People on both sides of this issue have strong, passionate opinions about the right direction to take," Jenkins said. "For every group asking for a delay, there is a group in favor of putting this law into effect."
Jenkins said Friday he would not be surprised to see a bill introduced in the upcoming session to delay implementation of SB81 but feels consensus among lawmakers on making that change would be lacking.
"The governor has expressed a desire to delay, but it's not like he has any support in that desire," Jenkins said. "It may come down to how much he is willing to do, and what kind of clout he will put behind it."
