It seems ironic that the article "Utah child-welfare lawsuit is likely over after 15 years" was printed just as the Legislature axed the Foster Care Citizen Review groups this year.
My understanding is that the review groups were formed because of that lawsuit as a safety measure that there would be oversight and these kinds of incidents wouldn't happen again. The Foster Care Citizen Review groups were composed of dedicated unpaid volunteers from the community who would volunteer a day of their time each month to review the DCFS cases, talk to the children, foster parents, parents, therapists, DCFS workers, and so forth to insure that the children were getting the best care possible.
How sad that foster children will not get this extra attention to ensure their safety and well-being, and millions of dollars will probably be spent again when another lawsuit is filed.
