President-elect Barack Obama should have "called the sheriff." If Rahm Emanuel made Obama aware of Rod Blagojevich's attempt to sell the Senate seat (a likely possibility), the president-elect should have made the attorney general of the United States or the U.S. attorney for Illinois aware of it. When Obama said he was sure his office "did not participate" in the governor's attempt to sell the seat, he did not say that he (or his office) did not know about it. To my mind, that's parsing. It looks like we may be back to "what did the president-elect know and when did he know it?" It would be disappointing and sad (not to mention a crime) if, indeed, our president-elect may have been aware of this level of corruption before the actual arrest and decided to stay quiet. The American people deserve the entire truth about the Blagojevich connections to the office of the president-elect.
