Online auction company eBay Inc. will develop a data center in South Jordan, with about 50 jobs being created.

The company and the Governor's Office of Economic Development on Monday announced that the company had closed on a land sale in Daybreak Commerce Park for the center, designed to improve capabilities for the users of eBay's Web sites.

The new jobs are expected to pay 50 percent above the Salt Lake County median wage. EBay in June was awarded a tax credit of nearly $27.3 million from the GOED board for the project. New state wages over 10 years are projected at $23.7 million, and new state revenue is estimated at $109.1 million for the same period.

Founded in 1995, eBay has about 1,600 employees in Draper. Its brands include eBay, PayPal, Skype, StubHub and Shopping.com. EBay is based in San Jose, Calif.
