WEST JORDAN — A man who met a woman through a telephone dating service was arrested after police say he raped her.

The couple had been meeting socially for about two weeks, said West Jordan Police Sgt. Drew Sanders. On Tuesday night, the man showed up at her apartment extremely intoxicated, Sanders said.

The woman said the man began making advances on her, and when she stood up and asked him to leave, he attacked her, according to Salt Lake County Jail documents. The man ripped off the woman's clothes, pushed her into a bedroom and raped her while also hitting and slapping her, the report stated.

The woman told the man she had to go to the bathroom, grabbed her clothes and ran to an upstairs apartment for help, according to jail documents. When police arrived at the apartment, near 9050 South and 1100 West, they found the man passed out on her bed, the report stated.

Loren Daniel Nichols, 35, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of object rape and rape.

Sanders said Nichols has criminal convictions in Utah and two other states, mostly on alcohol-related offenses.
