The UTOPIA network has an interlocal agreement among Brigham City, Cedar City, Cedar Hills, Centerville, Layton, Lindon, Midvale, Murray, Payson, Perry, Riverton, Tremonton and West Valley City. Of 200,000 total households in those cities, 7,300 have been hooked up, said UTOPIA spokesman Hugh Matheson. Fiberoptic cable has been laid that would allow about 30,000 total homes to be connected, making the take rate of subscribers to potential subscribers about 4 percent.
However, the take rate in places like Tremonton has been as high as 50 percent, said UTOPIA executive director Todd Marriott. In those areas, new return-on-investment strategies have been deployed as has door-to-door selling.
