The executive director of the Utah Department of Commerce said Thursday that Utahns impacted by the closing of two Salt Lake Valley health clubs should file complaints with her agency if they fail to receive refunds on their memberships.

In a statement, Francine Giani said that people who were among the 8,000 members of Bally Total Fitness in Utah should contact the state Division of Consumer Protection if they have problems getting refunds for their gym memberships. The company closed its two locations in Midvale and Sugar House without warning members on Wednesday.

"While Bally Total Fitness has assured us that they are going to work with Utah members on issuing refunds, we want those who held memberships to know they can file a complaint with us if they do not receive satisfaction from the company," Giani said.

If you have questions, call the division at 801-530-6601 or visit the agency's Web Site at www.consumerprotection.utah.gov.
