OGDEN It took five tries, but Weber State finally picked up its first victory over a Division I opponent on Thursday night.
The Wildcats finally played a strong second half and pulled away from Long Beach State in a 72-63 victory at the Dee Events Center. The win improved Weber State's overall record to 3-4, and avenged a loss to the 49ers earlier this season. The Wildcats' other victories were over a Division II opponent and an NAIA team.
Freshman Damian Lillard led Weber State with a career-high 15 points. Senior Daviin Davis chipped in 14 points.
The Wildcats started to pull away early in the second half when Kyle Bullinger and Nick Hansen made 3-pointers on back-to-back possessions. Hansen and Lillard then sank 3's to give Weber State a commanding 46-33 lead.
