A West Valley City man was charged with aggravated assault Tuesday after police said he walked into a Salt Lake City market Friday and placed a knife to the neck of a man standing behind the counter and threatened to kill him.
The 25-year old West Valley city man entered La Guadalapana Market located at 265 E. 3300 South and proceeded directly toward the man behind the counter, according to a police report.
After threatening the employee, the man was still holding the knife as he left the store, and he became involved in an altercation with other people, police said. One man involved in the fight was stabbed in the right side of his chest and later identified the man who had wielded the knife.
In addition to the assault charge, which is a third-degree felony, the West Valley man also faces a misdemeanor charge of inter- ference with an arresting officer.
