A California man driving the wrong way on I-80 Friday night was killed when his car struck a semitrailer in Summit County east of Parleys Summit.
Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Jeff Plank said Daniel Shoaf, 43, was driving his black Chevy sedan westbound in an eastbound lane shortly before 11 p.m. Investigators weren't certain Saturday what prompted Shoaf to drive in the wrong direction, but Plank said the driver may have been impaired in some way.
Based on paperwork inside the vehicle, Plank said it appeared Shoaf was driving a rental car to Ohio at the time of the crash. The driver of the semi was not injured. Plank said both drivers were wearing seat belts.
