Funeral services for Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin will be held at noon Friday in the Tabernacle on Temple Square. The public is invited, and those who attend are asked to be in their seats by 11:30 a.m. Tabernacle doors will open at 11 a.m.
Elder Wirthlin was the oldest living apostle of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He died unexpectedly late Monday at age 91.
KBYU-TV (channel 11), BYU-TV, KSL Digital TV (channel 5.3 or 105 on Comcast), along with BYU Radio, LDS.org and the LDS satellite system will broadcast the services live.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the LDS Church's Humanitarian Center or the Perpetual Education Fund. Donations can be made online at www.ldsp.org/wirthlin or www.ldsphilanthropies.org/wirthlin. Interment will be at the Salt Lake City Cemetery following a private ceremony.
As a result of the funeral, Friday evening's performance of "Recibid al Rey," the church's annual Spanish language Christmas program, has been canceled. Performances scheduled Saturday at 2 and 7 p.m. will continue as planned. Those with Friday tickets are invited to attend the Saturday evening performance.
