SOUTH JORDAN Kennecott Land's corporate center in Daybreak is the first building in the state to earn LEED-Platinum certification for energy efficiency, Kennecott said Wednesday.
"We have taken large steps to leave a small footprint," vice president of commercial development Scott Kaufmann said in a prepared statement. Platinum is the highest level of certification the U.S. Green Building Council awards for leadership in energy and environmental design.
The 175,000-square-foot center features a number of energy-saving features. The building was constructed using some recycled materials, and it is expected to use 22 percent less energy than standard office buildings through improved lighting, building orientation and solar panels.
The center also retains 100 percent of on-site storm water and uses it to irrigate water-wise landscaping.
