President Uchtdorf to be BYU-Idaho's fall commencement speaker Dec. 12

REXBURG, Idaho — President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, second counselor in the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will be Brigham Young University-Idaho's fall commencement speaker on Dec. 12. Commencement will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the John W. Hart Auditorium.

President Uchtdorf was called as the second counselor in the First Presidency on Feb. 3. Prior to this call, he was sustained as a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles on Oct. 2, 2004, and had served as a general authority since April 1994. He was also called as a member of the Presidency of the Seventy in August 2002.

President Uchtdorf was raised in Zwickau, Germany, where his family joined the church in 1947.

Complimentary tickets for commencement may be picked up at the ticket office beginning Monday. Each marching graduate is allotted up to three tickets.

Draper Temple open house tickets

Advance reservations for tours of the Draper Utah Temple can be made online at www.lds.org/reservations or by calling 1-800-537-6181 or 801-240-7932.

The open house will run from Jan. 15 through March 14. Following the open house, the temple will be dedicated March 20 to 22 in 12 sessions.

The temple will be The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' 129th operating temple in the world and 12th in Utah.

Friday's 'Recibid al Rey' canceled

The Friday performance of "Recibid al Rey," the Spanish-language Christmas program in the Tabernacle sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, has been canceled because of Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin's funeral. The services, scheduled Friday at noon, require a different stage configuration that cannot be rearranged in time for the Christmas program. The performances scheduled Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. will be held as scheduled. Those holding tickets for Friday may attend the 7 p.m. performance Saturday.
