A group of local music artists, businesses and clubs is sponsoring a benefit concert aimed at stopping violence in Salt Lake Valley.

The event is in memory of Maria del Carmen Menchaca, a 7-year-old girl who was killed during a drive-by shooting July 6. Proceeds from the show will go to Menchaca's family, and a scholarship will be established in her honor.

The show is scheduled for Saturday from 5 to 10 p.m. at the Vortex, 212 W. 1300 South. Admission is $5 per person.

People interested in donating can call 801-548-8588.
