More Coverage
  • Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin, oldest apostle, 91, dies at home

Funeral services for Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin will be held at noon on Friday, Dec. 5, in the Tabernacle on Temple Square.

The LDS Church's satellite system will carry the funeral live, as will BYU-TV, a cable and satellite channel. It was not immediately known if local TV stations will also broadcast the service.

Regarding a replacement apostle, no timeline has been set yet. Traditionally, however, selection of a new apostle can come in a few weeks, unless church leaders decide to wait until the next general conference, which in this case would be April.

Are funerals of Apostles and there spoused generally open to the public? I think most of the time they are. Just need some security there.

They are open to the public. From my experience, they are very uplifting for those in attendance.

It's sad when an Apostle passes on.

Elder Wirthlin lived a Good Life.

Elder Wirthlin lived a Great Life.

He was a Servant of and a Witness of
the Lord Jesus Christ.

He left a Legacy and Example to More..
