Black Gaming LLC said Monday it will temporarily cut operations at the Oasis Resort Casino Golf and Spa in Mesquite, Nev.

Robert R. "Randy" Black Sr., the majority owner of Black Gaming, said in a prepared statement that the cutbacks would begin Friday and will affect about 500 of Black Gaming's more than 2,000 employees. Black said the company's hotel, RV park, golf course, gun club and time-share facilities will remain open.

Black attributed the problems to "a weakening economy and anticipated future decline in demand for our casino services." He added that "the length and depth of the challenging gaming market we face today will guide our decisions on the return to full-scale Oasis operations, and no assurances can be made about the future prospects."

Black Gaming, based in Las Vegas, also operates CasaBlanca Resort and Casino and the Virgin River Hotel and Casino, which are unaffected.
