"She is the right person for the job of helping to restore America's image abroad, end the war in Iraq, advance peace and increase our security, by building a future for our children with more partners and fewer adversaries, one of shared responsibilities and opportunities," he said.
She does have a unique perspective. She's served as a U.S. senator, a first lady and a long-time advocate for children and women. She's proven her mettle personally and professionally. She's the sort of person we want to answer the phone at 3 a.m. should a diplomatic crisis arise.
While Hillary as secretary of state doesn't give the nation the same concerns as a co-presidency had she been elected president, we should not underestimate how difficult it will be for Bill Clinton to resist the temptation to insert himself into matters at the state department.
Difficult as it may be, he must. The nation voted for a fresh start. Although Hillary Clinton and Obama were political rivals they are now on the same team. Instead of being the star player, Bill Clinton must set aside his ego and insecurities and play a supporting role. It may be his greatest challenge yet.
