Two Salt Lake County men died in separate motor vehicle accidents on Monday.

A West Jordan man is dead after his United Parcel Service truck collided with a dump truck at an intersection in Tooele County.

The Utah Highway Patrol said it happened about 9:20 a.m. at the intersection of state routes 36 and 138. The UPS truck was headed south on state Route 36 and the dump truck was planning to turn left on state Route 138.

"The dump truck turned left in front of the UPS truck and they collided," UHP trooper Cameron Roden said Monday. "It was pretty much a head-on crash."

The UHP identified the man killed as Allen Christopherson, 54. The driver of the dump truck was flown by medical helicopter to a Salt Lake City hospital where he was last reported to be in fair condition. The UHP said a citation would likely be issued.

A motorcycle rider was killed in Herriman after hitting a minivan when the van's driver apparently made a turn in front of him.

Carlo Saurdiff, 20, was riding a bullet bike on 11800 South just before 10:30 a.m., said Salt Lake County sheriff's Lt. Jay Southam.

The driver of a minivan made a left turn at the intersection of 4000 West in front of the motorcycle, Southam said. Saurdiff, who was wearing a helmet, did not have time to react and hit the van.

Saurdiff was declared dead at the scene. Neither the woman driving the minivan nor her baby in the back seat was injured. No citations had been issued as of Monday against the driver of the minivan.
