Utah Utes basketball: Utah loses 4th straight game; WSU, UVU win

MILWAUKEE — Heather Bowman scored 27 points to lead Gonzaga to a 60-55 victory over Utah on Saturday.

Vivian Frieson added 12 points for Gonzaga (6-1).

Courtney Vandersloot, who scored a career-high 32 points in Gonzaga's 80-77 loss to Marquette on Friday night, left the game with a right ankle injury in the second half after scoring just 5 points.

Kalee Whipple had 16 points for Utah (1-4), which lost its fourth straight game.

In a back-and-forth second half, Bowman put the Bulldogs on top for good at 51-50 with a pair of free throws with 5:21 remaining.

She scored 18 points in the first half — including Gonzaga's first 12 — as she single-handedly gave the Bulldogs a 12-8 lead.

Frieson's basket with a half-minute left to play in the second quarter gave Gonzaga a 28-26 halftime lead.

WEBER STATE 85, ELON 80 (2OT): At Pittsburgh, Caitlin Anderson, Ali Thorderson and Tonya Schnibbe combined for 67 points, 24 rebounds and 18 assists to lead the Wildcats in a double-overtime win over Elon Saturday. The win earned WSU a split at the University of Pittsburgh Thanksgiving Tournament. Elon went up three points with 55 seconds on the clock, but Anderson's three with 37 ticks left sent the game into overtime.

UTAH VALLEY 73, BOISE STATE 70: At Boise, the Wolverines ended an 11-game road losing streak, dating back to last season, by knocking off Boise State behind 24 points and 16 rebounds from senior Robyn Fairbanks. Asumi Nakayama hit four key free throws in the final 27 seconds and had a steal with two seconds left to ice the game. She finished with seven points, five assists and three steals.

SOUTH DAKOTA 80, DIXIE 62: At Vermillion, S.D., an 18-1 run over the final five minutes of the game propelled the host Coyotes over Dixie State College in the DakotaDome. Senior guard Deney Phommabout paced all DSC with 17 points

WISCONSIN 59, NO. 6 BAYLOR 58: At St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, Alyssa Karel scored 15 points, including a jumper with 7 seconds left, to lift Wisconsin.

Baylor led 58-53 with 2:43 left before Wisconsin rallied behind Karel. Mariah Dunham started the rally with a free throw, then Karel scored a layup to cut it to 58-56. Dunham then hit another free throw with 53 seconds left and Jhasmin Player missed a 3-pointer with 30 seconds left, setting up Karel's basket.
