NFL's Turkey Games — The 3 Thursday matchups were real snoozers

But I think most NFL fans can use a break from seeing Dallas in one of the league's most prominent games. The league showcases the Cowboys enough, always giving them the maximum number of national television appearances. Save their annual Thanksgiving appearance for a different day during the year.

Wouldn't it be nice to see a Thanksgiving game played at Lambeau Field? Or Invesco Field? Or how about seeing some cheerful Raider fans in the black hole while carving up the holiday bird? I figure the NFL has already tinkered with tradition by adding a third Thanksgiving game — to be played on its own network. Now just blow the whole thing up. Let's start seeing some other teams on the holiday.

If you look at today's schedule, you figure there are at least seven games that will be more exciting than the NFL games televised on Thanksgiving. How much better would it have been to open the day with Pittsburgh at New England, then switch to an NFC East clash between the Giants and Redskins? Had the NFL ended the day with the Jets and Broncos, it would have been a true football feast on Thanksgiving.

Story continues below
Stop it with the concerts at halftime: OK, what in the world is the NFL trying to do by putting on these halftime showcases? Have the people who decide these things completely lost touch with who are the league's die-hard fans? The NFL proudly sent out a press release prior to Thursday's games, noting that young-fan favorites Jesse McCartney, the Jonas Brothers, Michelle Williams, Demi Lovato and Mario would be singing before or at the break of the three games.

Thanks. Apparently the league is targeting junior high girls to support and follow it through these tough economic times.

Stick to football, please, NFL people. Otherwise, I may already know that Rocky beats Clubber Lang in the rematch, but I'd rather watch that than a seemingly 60-minute halftime show that I'm way, way too old and male to enjoy.

A Detroit fan wears a bag on his head to hide his identity. The Lions could be the first 0-16 team in NFL history.
