I welcome Breck England's invitation to show that I am consistent in how I voted for Judge Robert Hilder and John McCain (Readers' Forum, Nov. 26). I verify that I DID vote for McCain. And if Mr. England will check the record of the Senate Judiciary Committee and the Senate record, he will discover that I voted FOR the confirmation of Judge Hilder. As I carefully explained when I made the motion to the committee to recommend Judge Hilder's confirmation, I had concerns — not about the divorce and other personal matters, but how these issues had been presented to me privately and publicly in the committee. I did not believe these concerns rose to the level of voting against confirmation. Thus, I voted FOR Judge Hilder's confirmation, both in committee and on the Senate Floor (along with three other Republican senators).
Mr. England, you can now certify to me that you sent $1,000 to the USU music department for its scholarship program.
