S.L. couple charged in October armed robbery
According to charges filed Tuesday in 3rd District Court, a clerk at Ruelas Envios Multiservicios, located at 55 N. Redwood Road, was closing shop Nov. 20 when a man knocked on the front door. The clerk recognized the man as a regular customer and opened the door.
Once inside, the man pointed a gun at the clerk and threatened to shoot him if he didn't open the store safe, charges state. The man made off with $55,000.
The clerk said he keeps copies of customers' photo IDs on file, and police were able to track the man at his apartment, charges state. His wife told officers he had been at home all night. The man also gave police a false name.
Police found numerous Federal Reserve bands in the kitchen, and the clerk identified the man as the person who robbed the store, charges state. Police also found a handgun and $25,000 in the apartment.
The man, 20, has been charged with aggravated robbery and providing false information to a police officer, a first-degree felony and class C misdemeanor. His wife, 20, has been charged with obstruction of justice and theft by receiving stolen property both second-degree felonies.
