A Real Salt Lake spokesperson confirmed on Monday that the club has purchased Jamison Olave's contract from Deportivo Cali in his native Colombia and signed him through the 2012 season.

Later this afternoon RSL must submit a list of the 11 players it is protecting for Seattle's expansion draft, and the Colombian defender will definitely be among those 11 players after the signing. The details of the contract weren't announced, but Olave is now one the highest-paid players on the team.

Olave was on loan this past year from Deportivo Cali and being paid $80,000. RSL's highest-paid player this past year was Javier Morales, whose base salary was $240,000.

All teams must submit their protected lists to the league at 1 p.m. (MDT), and they'll be made public at 3 p.m. The expansion draft will be held on Wednesday, with Seattle picking 10 total players from the unprotected list but no more than one from each team.

SUCCESSFUL SURGERY: RSL midfielder Robbie Russell had surgery on his torn labrum and rotator cuff on Friday, injuries that he suffered in the conference loss to New York.

GRADUATED: Yura Movsisyan and Nik Besagno have been graduated from the Generation adidas program by the league. The move means that Besagno, along with Kenny Cutler and Dustin Kirby, are being released by RSL.
