WEST VALLEY CITY Police say a man broke into a woman's apartment and tried to sexually assault her Sunday.
Just before 8 p.m., a woman was alone in her home, near 4100 South and 4100 West, when she heard someone inside her apartment, said West Valley Police Lt. Dalan Taylor.
"She hears a noise in the kitchen and her cockatiel starts going crazy," he said. "She walks in and there's the man."
The man grabbed the woman and punched her several times, causing swelling and a bloody nose, Taylor said. The man tried to tear the woman's clothes, but she was able to fight him off, police said.
The suspect was described only as a male Hispanic with a brown hat and a dark brown jacket.
