OGDEN Matt Nichols threw for 242 yards and two touchdowns as Eastern Washington beat Weber State 33-26 on Saturday, giving the Wildcats their first loss in Big Sky Conference play this season.
EWU's Aaron Boyce caught two touchdowns from Nichols, including a 33-yard reception in the third quarter that gave the Eagles (6-5, 5-4 Big Sky Conference) a 33-7 lead with 6:54 left in the third quarter.
Boyce finished the day with 108 receiving yards.
The Wildcats (9-3, 7-1 Big Sky Conference) share the league title with Montana. Since WSU defeated Montana earlier in the season the Wildcats get the league's automatic spot in the FCS playoffs.
Trevyn Smith scored all four of Weber State's touchdowns against Eastern Washington, including three on the ground and one reception. He rushed for 171 yards and caught six passes for 60 yards.
Smith's fourth touchdown, a 56-yard run on the final play of the third quarter, pulled the Wildcats to within 33-26. But the Eagles' defense stopped the Wildcats from tying the game in the final minute when Greg Peach recovered a fumble by Smith on EWU's 18-yard line with 57 seconds remaining.
WSU quarterback Cameron Higgins threw for 312 yards and a season-high four interceptions.
