DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. The Utah basketball team improved to 2-1 on the season with a 83-72 victory over Mississippi Friday night in the Glen Wilkes Classic at the Ocean Center.
Five Utes scored in double figures, led by Lawrence Borha and Shaun Green with 19 points apiece. Tyler Kepkay added 13, Jordan Cyphers had 12 and Luke Nevill recorded his third double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The Utes shot well, making 53.4 percent from the field, 48 percent from 3-point range and 90 percent from the free throw line.
When asked the difference in the game, Utah coach Jim Boylen said, "Depth and bench scoring. That's what I envisioned this team to be."
Led by Green, Kepkay and Cyphers, the Ute bench outscored the starters 44-39.
The Utes led by 10 at halftime, 46-36 and kept a steady lead throughout the second half as the Rebels (2-1) never got closer than six points.
Utah plays Morgan State today at 2:15 p.m. MST.
