I hope that's not the case, Mark. I've always admired people who risk it all to chase their dreams and start businesses, and I know such businesses make a huge contribution to our nation's economy. We're not going to be able to turn things around if our small businesses go under.
Another reader, Bryce, wrote in with some general concerns about the Deseret News business section, but also with specific requests.
"How about writing or featuring articles about businesses that ARE doing well? Or maybe companies that have banded together to help each other develop new markets, reduce costs or launch new products or services," he wrote in an e-mail.
He added: "Utah has THOUSANDS of business stories that are compelling, unique and inspiring. Use the voice you've got ... to solicit feedback, ask questions and start an interactive dialogue that will provide a benefit to your readers ... "
That has been my goal, but maybe I haven't been clear enough. So if you know of a small-business success story, or have a specific example of a company that has tried a new business practice that has paid off, please let me know.
