A fan's cheat sheet
BCS berth.
Utah will go to a BCS game with a victory; the Cougars need at least a win and a Boise State loss (BSU plays at Nevada today at 2 p.m.) BCS bowl matchups will be announced on Dec. 7.
The Beehive Boot.
The bronze trophy is awarded to the top NCAA Football Bowl Division team in the state (Utah, BYU and Utah State). Both schools have already beaten USU earlier this season. In its 37-year history, the Boot has gone to Utah 10 times, BYU 21 times and USU six times.
10 Deseret First Duel points.
The Duel adds up all the points throughout the school year for all sports Utah and BYU compete in. The Deseret Duel Rivalry Series is tied 6-6 this year after volleyball (Utah 6) and soccer (BYU 6) matches. The Cougars won the Duel last season in its first year.
A friendly wager.
The mayors of Salt Lake City, Ralph Becker, and Provo, Lewis K. Billings, will be attending the game together, and they have a friendly wager. The loser will have to bicycle to the other city and sing the opposing school's fight song.
