Our state senators have made a terrible choice in failing to confirm Judge Robert Hilder. As a practicing attorney in Salt Lake County, I have appeared in front of every judge in the 3rd District Court. Judge Hilder is, without a doubt, the best of the best. I have appeared in front of him on hundreds of cases. His demeanor has always been respectful and he is polite to every attorney or party in front of him.
I have seen him have to make difficult decisions, but he refrains from personal bias and weighs the issue on its merits. No judge in our state has more appropriate judicial demeanor. He is truly a class act.
Unfortunately, our state senators take an approach of partisanship and bias. It sounds like the senators don't want a bias-free non-activist judge, they want one that will promote the Waddoups/Buttars pro-gun agenda.
