Eagle Mountain to annex land

EAGLE MOUNTAIN — City leaders are taking steps to annex land on the west side all the way to Fairfield, while separately turning more agriculture land into commercial uses.

Also, the City Council on Tuesday approved the land use document and master development plan that regulates how a 364-home community in the northeast section of the city will be developed. The nearly 40 acres is to be annexed from Saratoga Springs.

Dubbed Scenic Mountain, the development is to have nearly 10 homes per acre.

Officials put off taking the action in August while they were waiting for a traffic study to see if a traffic signal was needed at state Route 73 and Mt. Airey Drive. City staff recommended left and right turn lanes to service the intersection and no traffic light, however the Utah Department of Transportation still must approve the plans, city spokeswoman Linda Peterson said.

The council accepted a petition to start the annexation of more than 3,100 acres from the western city boundaries to Fairfield and includes the community of White Hills. That began a 30-day review period, Peterson said, before the annexation can take place.

Meanwhile, more than 20 acres of agricultural land was rezoned to allow commercial uses. The property is north of state Route 73 and Ranches Parkway intersection. Earlier city leaders designated it in the general plan for mixed use commercial.

The approval included a master plan for 12.5 acres and a site plan for 4.9 acres that includes a shopping area called Coops Market Place, Peterson said. The City Council vote was unanimous.
