"Why would you create something in Draper that you've already got over here," said Shea, who's worked on the project for seven years.
Shea also pointed out that UTA already spent more than $6 million on 40 acres around the proposed Bluffdale site. They shouldn't spend more taxpayer money than they have to, he said.
UTA hopes to make a decision by the end of the year. Staffers will eventually make a recommendation to General Manager John Inglish, who will pass his thoughts on to the general board, which will make the final decision.
The transit authority will then build basic features such as concrete gutters and fiber-optic switches into the line at the designated station site. The line is expected to be completed no later than 2015.
The stop will be built later, when finances and infrastructure are in place to support it.
UTA is holding a second public hearing in Draper today from 5 to 7 p.m. at Willow Springs Elementary School, 13288 S. Lone Rock Drive (465 East).
