The Utah basketball team was shocked in its season opener by Southwest Baptist 80-79 Saturday afternoon.

The Division II Bearcats led throughout the game and survived a driving shot by Utah's Lawrence Borha with three seconds left.

Luke Nevill led the Utes with 28 points and 14 rebounds, while Shaun Green added 15 points and 9 rebounds.

The Bearcats killed the Utes with their outside shooting, sinking 16 of 32 3-pointers. Tomas Brock led the scoring with 16 points, while Dante Harris and Brandon Clemons each scored 15.

Southwest Baptist led 42-36 at the half, but Utah took a five-point lead at 56-51 midway through the second half, only to see the Bearcats claw back into the game.

The Utes play Wisconsin-Green Bay Tuesday night.
