No. 8 UTAH (10-0, 6-0) at San Diego St. (1-9, 0-6)

Clear and nice. Game-time temperature about 72 degrees.

Today, 6 p.m. — Qualcomm Stadium (54,000) — Natural grass — San Diego

TV: The mtn. — Radio: 700AM

THE STAKES

For Utah ... The Utes can clinch at least a share of the Mountain West Conference championship (for the first time since 2004) with a victory. In addition, they're still pursuing a berth in the Bowl Championship Series.

For San Diego State ... The injury riddled Aztecs are playing for pride. Their lone win this season was a 45-17 non-conference decision over Idaho on Sept. 27. Since then, SDSU has lost six straight MWC games.

THE TRENDS

For Utah ... Utah has won 11 consecutive games dating back to its last visit to San Diego, a 35-32 victory over Navy in the 2007 Poinsettia Bowl.

Story continues below
For San Diego State ... San Diego State has lost four of its last five games against Utah. The Aztecs haven't defeated Utah at Qualcomm Stadium since 2002.

THE EDGE

Utah will win if ... the Utes don't get caught looking ahead to next week's game against BYU. They've consistently avoided such pitfalls this season.

San Diego State will win if ... the Aztecs find a way to shut the Utes down with their defense. If that happens, head for the hills immediately.

INJURY REPORT

For Utah: The Utes came out of last week's win over TCU with some bumps and bruises — no significant injuries.

PLAYER TO WATCH

RYAN LINDLEY, quarterback: San Diego State's freshman has completed 54.9 percent of his passes for 2,029 yards and 12 touchdowns with seven interceptions.

KEY MATCHUP

Utah's offense vs. San Diego State's defense: After two consecutive 13-point outings, Utah's offense is primed to put a lot of points on the board against one of the nation's worst defenses.
