New online LDS station features upbeat, contemporary music
A new online radio station aimed at Mormon listeners has launched.
The station, whose call letters are YLDSR, can be found at www.yourLDSradio.com. The program director is Sam Payne, a poet, singer, songwriter and radio show host.
The focus of the station is upbeat, contemporary music featuring new artists, with some pretaped program segments. When listeners click on the station, they hear a live stream of songs. Information about the song, artist and album, as well as a graphic of the CD cover, appears as the song is played. There is also an option to buy and download music.
Music played on the station "will be chosen at first from among songs that are already making the biggest impact in the cultural LDS listening experience," Payne said.
Listeners also will have the option of hearing on-demand prerecorded programs such as Steven Kapp Perry's "Cricket and Seagull" program, Greg Hansen's 10-minute "New Artist Show" and Payne's "Radio Family Journal."
The station is part of the music division of yourLDSneighborhood.com.
Southern Virginia University honors Fausts
BUENA VISTA, Va. — President James E. Faust, former second counselor in the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and his wife, Ruth Wright, have been honored posthumously with Southern Virginia University's Leader-Servant Award.
The Leader-Servant Award is the highest honor bestowed by Southern Virginia, a small liberal arts college in Virginia that caters to Latter-day Saint students and is given to recognize the contributions of respected leaders. The Fausts' five children were in attendance Sunday to receive the award on behalf of their parents.
"President Faust epitomizes what it means to be a leader-servant," Southern Virginia President Rodney K. Smith said. "And clearly, one cannot effectively capture the life and service of President Faust without including his eternal companion."
President and Sister Faust are the sixth recipients of the Leader-Servant Award. Past winners include Elder Neal A. Maxwell, Elder Marion D. Hanks, Chieko Okazaki, Glade M. and Kathleen N. Knight, and Richard E. and Nancy P. Marriott.
President Faust, who died at the age of 87, served as a general authority of the LDS Church for 35 years, including 12 years as a member of the First Presidency.
