Dix McMullin, who served in public offices for more than three decades in the state House and Senate and as a planning commissioner, councilman and mayor of South Jordan, died Nov. 8, 2008, at age 74 from complications related to cancer.

Mr. McMullin also was an educator, with a doctorate in education from the University of Utah. He taught and held administrative posts in public schools, including as principal of Kearns High, and founded an alternative high school, Master Academy.

He was seen as a driving force behind what is now Bangerter Highway, so much so that lawmakers had considered naming the west-side route "Dix H. McMullin Highway" rather than for former Gov. Norm Bangerter.

Funeral services are scheduled at noon on Friday, Nov. 14, at the South Jordan River Stake Center, 11400 S. 1570 West, preceded by a viewing from 10-11 a.m. A viewing is also set from 5-9 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 13, at the Jenkins-Soffe South Valley Mortuary, 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway.

Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.jenkins-soffe.com.
