The Tennessean sports writer Bryan Mullen: In a season full of Big Orange surprises, UT unveiled an absolute stunner. Playing one of the worst teams in all of college football, the Volunteers stumbled, bumbled and fumbled their way to one of the program's worst losses ever.

Wyoming entered Neyland Stadium as a 26-point underdog and a perceived homecoming doormat, but exited victorious with a 13-7 win front of an embarrassed crowd of 99,489.

David Climer, Tennessean columnist: In time, we will discover what Tennessee football is like without Phillip Fulmer.

But based on the events of Saturday afternoon, we know what Tennessee football with Fulmer has become — a joke.

YEAH, BUT... Boise State whipped Utah State 49-14 and used a basket of trick plays, with four Broncos throwing touchdown passes. Gotta fear those Aggies with that kind of gadgetry.

TREND SETTERS: Oregon State is not ranked in the coaches' poll and is not included in the Harris Poll, but AP has the Beavers No. 23. If OSU beats Cal and Oregon at home and defeats Arizona in Tucson, USC cannot catch them for a Pac-10 title.

Story continues below
OVERRATED: Penn State. Once again, we see a Top Five team go into the environs of an unranked opponent and, like USC did at Corvallis in September, lose to Iowa in Iowa City.

UNDERRATED: Despite Texas Tech thumping the Cowboys, I think Oklahoma State should be rated higher than Ohio State and Georgia. And No. 24 one-loss Tulsa might be better than undefeated Ball State.

BOTTOM LINE: Southern Cal has a better chance of playing in a BCS game than winning the Pac-10.

MY TOP FIVE: 1. Texas Tech, 2. Alabama, 3. Oklahoma, 4. Florida, 5. Texas.
