BYU football: Team bids goodbye to 22 players in final home game

Boise State, San Jose State or Fresno State — will end up in the Poinsettia Bowl.

"BYU has a lot to do with the bowl tradition in San Diego, and we're very fond on the possibility of having the Cougars back there again," Rectenwald said.

COLLIE REWRITING THE RECORD BOOK: With 127 yards receiving against SDSU, junior wide receiver Austin Collie now has 2,902 career receiving yards, putting him No. 2 all-time on BYU's list, surpassing Margin Hooks.

Collie now needs only 165 more yards to surpass Eric Drage (3,066) and claim the No. 1 spot.

For the season, Collie has amassed 1,185 receiving yards, moving him into third on BYU's all-time, single-season receiving yards list, trailing only Reno Mahe and Andy Boyce. Collie needs only 57 more yards to set the school record for the single-season receiving performance of all-time.

With two more touchdown catches on Saturday, Collie has 28 career touchdowns, tying Matt Bellini at No. 9 on BYU's all-time TD list.

FLAG-BEARERS: Junior Jan Jorgensen carried the team flag onto the field prior to the game. The alumni flag was carried by Phil Nauahi, who was a Cougar offensive lineman from 1987-88.

EXTRA POINTS: BYU running back Harvey Unga suffered a neck stinger in the first half of Saturday's game. He did not play in the second half. ... The attendance was 64,107, marking the 12th consecutive sellout at Edwards Stadium. ... The Cougar defense shut out the Aztecs in the first half. BYU has held opponents scoreless for a total of 19 quarters in its 10 games this season.
