THE STAKES
For SDSU ... The snake-bitten, injury-riddled Aztecs are trying to build some momentum for the future. A good performance against BYU would be encouraging for coach Chuck Long.
For BYU ... The No. 17 Cougars still harbor hopes of an MWC championship, but they would have to win their last three games. They need to build some momentum before facing two tough road games the next two weeks.
THE TRENDS
For SDSU ... The Aztecs have surrendered 35 or more points in six of their last seven games, including 70 against New Mexico.
THE EDGE
SDSU will win if ... it can force multiple BYU turnovers and play its best game of the year by far.
BYU will win if ... the offense can play like it has the past two weeks and the defense can get stops.
INJURY REPORT
For SDSU: Vincent Brown, the Aztecs' leading receiver, suffered a concussion last week but is expected to play today. Running back Brandon Sullivan has a sprained toe and is doubtful.
For BYU: Cornerback Scott Johnson suffered a double groin tear last week and will miss the remainder of the regular season.
NEXT UP
BYU visits Air Force on Nov. 15 (1:30 p.m., CBS-C). SDSU hosts Utah on Nov. 15 (6 p.m., The mtn.)
RYAN LINDLEY, quarterback: The freshman QB is No. 2 in the Mountain West Conference in passing, throwing for 233.6 yards per game. He has 11 touchdowns and six interceptions this season.
BYU's defense vs. SDSU's offense: The Cougars have been victimized the last three games, allowing more than 400 yards in each. They are looking to halt that trend today against an Aztec team that averages only 18 points per game.
PLAYER TO WATCH: San Diego State quarterback Ryan Lindley.
KEY MATCHUP: BYU's defense vs. SDSU's offense.
