U.S. can't afford socialism

I enjoyed Lee Benson's column (Nov. 7) because it enumerated the blessings of our freedom and liberty in these great United States. They are the kinds of things we take for granted.

There are others he could have mentioned that one hopes don't come to pass: much higher taxes, more governmental meddling in our lives, climate change foolishness, "bankrupting the coal industry" and the so-called "fairness doctrine," which would foul up our rights under the Constitution.

We really can't afford more socialistic programs.
