LOS ANGELES (AP) Los Angeles police have detained two people after a confrontation during a march by 1,000 people protesting California's new ban on gay marriage.
Demonstrator Maurice Carriere says he was punched in the face during the confrontation that occurred Thursday when marchers surrounded a pickup truck that had a banner supporting Proposition 8, the ballot measure that banned gay marriages.
Carriere was left with a bloody nose.
Two unidentified people were placed in the back of a police car. Officers were also seen struggling with one person on a sidewalk but it was unclear if the two incidents were related.
The demonstrators began marching through city streets after staging a protest against the LDS Church, which supported the proposition.
