A woman charged in connection with an identity theft ring involving an ex-employee of the Utah Department of Workforce Services has been sentenced to three years in federal prison.
Michelle Chapman, 29, was sentenced Monday on bank fraud and identity fraud charges, according to court records. Federal prosecutors allege that she was involved in receiving information on 23 people that was stolen from government computers.
Laura Bustamante, 34, the ex-employee, pleaded guilty last month to unlawful access of a protected computer and aggravated identity theft. She faces sentencing on Dec. 15.
Another co-defendant in the case, Joshua Smith, 32, is scheduled for sentencing Dec. 3 in U.S. District Court in Salt Lake City.
