A brazen burglar who apparently walked into businesses during the day, including the offices of Utah Symphony & Opera, was arrested by Salt Lake police Thursday.

Employees at the productions studios of Utah Symphony & Opera, 336 N. 400 West, spotted a man inside their office checking doors about 9:45 a.m. Thursday, said Salt Lake police spokeswoman Jordan Smith. Employees recognized the man as the same person spotted on surveillance video a week ago taking a laptop from the company, she said.

The employees watched the man as he left their building and walked into Spring Air Mattress, 402 W. 300 North. The man tried to escape when he saw officers arrive and then tried to resist arrest but was taken into custody following a brief scuffle, Smith said.

The man was carrying a laptop, he claimed he found on the street, Smith said. The laptop actually had just been taken from the mattress store.

The man, 44, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of burglary, resisting arrest and giving false information.
