High school football playoff updates all evening long

High school football playoffs began today and the Deseret News has it covered. In addition to stories on dozens of games, our Web site will feature live updates of games from the day as well as summaries from our high school sports pages, located here. Look down the right column to find games that interest you.

We will be updating scores throughout the evening here. Games will be clickable on individual school pages with short summaries and a complete roundup of all the games will also be available as details come in from around the state.

5A PLAYOFFS

SKYLINE 31, LONE PEAK 3: The Eagles rolled past the Knights in the first round thanks to 355 yards on the ground. Lone Peak managed only 80 yards total. For Skyline, Algernon Brown had 130 rushing yards and two TDs. The Eagles advance to play Layton next week.

LAYTON 24, HUNTER 7: LaVaughn Jackson set the pace for Layton, finishing with 108 yards rushing on 19 carries and breaking a scoreless tie with a 6-yard TD run in the second quarter. Thomas Bryson stood out on defense, making 3.5 of the Lancers' seven team sacks.

BINGHAM 42, NORTHRIDGE 7: The Miner defense played a big part in the win over Northridge as they held the Knights to 1 yard rushing the entire night. On the ground, Harvey Langi led the attack with 88 yards on 11 carries and a TD. The Miners racked up 273 yards total rushing.

JORDAN 36, SPANISH FORK 33: Jordan's powerful offensive line cleared the way for two fourth quarter rushing touchdowns by Cory Hunt, which helped protect a narrow lead. A recovered onside kick with 1:44 left in the game sealed the victory for the Beetdiggers. Spanish Fork quarterback Breck Lewis threw for five TDs in the losing effort.

SYRACUSE 42, KEARNS 18: The Titans made a big case for themselves as they stomped on Kearns in the playoff opener. Running back TJ Blickfeldt had 30 carries for 148 yards and 3 touchdowns for Syracuse. Defensively, Syracuse forced four turnovers which all converted into touchdowns.

PLEASANT GROVE 37, BRIGHTON 10: The Vikings played well on both sides of the ball to beat Brighton and advance to the quarterfinals. Dallas Lloyd steadied Pleasant Grove with 111 yards rushing and a touchdown.

ALTA 55, VIEWMONT 14: Ammon Olsen went 17-for-23 for 296 yards and had four touchdowns for Alta. Wide receiver Parker Webster had 140 yards and three touchdowns, while Alex Rivas ran for 66 yards and a TD.

DAVIS 28, RIVERTON 14: Quarterback Gavin Fowler led the Darts with two passing and one rushing touchdown. Tanner Hinds added two rushing touchdowns to help Davis past the Silverwolves and advance to the quarter finals.
