A woman has filed civil suit against her sister and brother-in-law over a wake surfing accident that cost her her thumb.
According to a civil suit filed Tuesday in 3rd. District Court, the woman, her sister and her brother-in-law were at Pineview Reservoir in Huntsville. The brother-in-law gave her a quick tutorial on how to wake surf while being pulled by a power boat before she tried the sport.
The suit claims the brother-in-law did not use the proper equipment for wake surfing and the woman fell and was entangled in the rope. When she came out of the water, she realized the rope had amputated her thumb. The woman was transported to McKay-Dee Hospital, but doctors determined her thumb could not be reattached.
The woman has filed suit against her sister and brother-in-law, claiming the defendants provided "improper equipment and instructions." She is seeking general damages for pain and suffering, past and future medical expenses and lost earnings and lost earning capacity.
